If you were to take yourself out on a date, where would you go?

Here’s is my dream self date:

Wake up in my ocean front room to the in room breakfast I scheduled the night before. Walk out onto the beach for my private wind surfing lesson followed by a delicious healthy lunch served “water side”. Finally, a hot shower and then a full body, two hour massage and a facial.

I had a full 24 hours to take myself on a date, it would definitely involve water or the ocean. I am a water baby and the sound of the waves or even swimming in a pool/lake just help me to let go of all of my stress instantly.

I love a great road trip…especially with a destination like Half Moon Bay or to Capitola – mid week when there are no tourists around. So, a drive over the hill, a light lunch out on the patio at Paradise Beach or the Fogbank to take in some sun and watch the waves.

Walk down close to the water and spread out a blanket and take a nap or just sit there watching the waves and people watch for a few hours. (No phones/pdas.) After relaxing and unwinding, a nice 90 minute massage at The Well Within with their yummy tea and a nice soak before the massage … they have those private spa/saunas that look like a Japanese tea garden and the most amazing tea. If you have not been to A Well Within, check out their website http://www.wellwithinspa.com – in Santa Cruz since 1985. Totally yummy, so Santa Cruz, super clean and the best massages.

I would top it off with a hotel room with a fireplace, a tub built for two, room service and close to the water so we could have the windows open and sleep to the sound of the break.

my whole day date:
i’d find myself waking up in white silk pajamas which miraculously do not show any cellullite, making me look like lauren hutton in the 80’s. i listen, and here a strange silence as i realize my husband has taken all the kids out to a video game conference so i won’t have to go (darn, i mean, yippeee), then i head over to Hobee’s for 5 cups of cinnamon orange hot tea and some DeAnza browns with real fattening sour cream (what? it’s my day). i’d head over to Marshall’s to experience shopping without the whines of “But Mommy, you don’t need any more shoes! I’m telling Daddy!” i stroll every precious aisle, even the back right hand corner, oh yes ladies, even the clearance corner of the store. after dropping a guilt free $400.00 (dang, even in my dreams, i’m not *too* high maintenance!), i head over to Big Al’s Record Barn and indulge myself with the sinful LP sounds of Frampton Comes Alive, the soundtrack to Sooner or Later, Sonny and Cher’s Greatest Hits, Ramones and Tammy Wynette. I take my big ol’ bag of vinyl home just as the Merry Maids I arranged for my big day are putting the vaccum away. After relaxing in the tub with some Sephora bubbles, I read every page of Marie Claire, Real Simple, and finally finish off Kathy Griffin’s autobiography in peace. After napping, I stroll downtown Willow Glen for my soy mocha, and pick up a Tuscan candle from Tyson’s interiors. I pause and look at the time on my Iphone – crap it’s only 2:00, like I could totally go anywhere or do anything….and all I’m thinking as I wait for the light to change, is how much I love my guys, and wish they were here to spend the day off with me. Is that sad? Is that wonderful? I can’t decide. There’s just something about my man’s blue eyes….better than any red tag at Marshall’s .

Love the water themes… If you ride out on the Amazon at night, the sky is literally littered with stars. I’ve always wanted to take a romantic boat ride there in the middle of the night alone with someone special along one of the small tributaries lined with the rain forest but with a perfect unobstructed view of the starry sky above. I’d just want a blanket, some wine and cheese, or if it was chilly maybe a flask of yummy schnapps and a thermos of hot soup instead. We could just float along in the night snuggled under the blanket, listening to the night sounds, staring at the stars, pointing out the fascinating creatures along the sides of the river and telling stories.

My 24 hour dream date would begin with a an early morning road trip, preferably being able to watch the sunrise. The destination would be one of those small towns that have great antique shops and mom&pop restaurants. We (my boyfriend and I) would stop and have breakfast and then spend the morning antique shopping and taking in the local flair. Much like many of the other stories, the afternoon would be spent by some body of water. We would play around and depending on the number of people around, possibly skinny dip. To my surprise, while shopping at one of the shops earlier, my boyfriend went to one of the restaurants and purchased food for a picnic. We spend the rest of the time having a picnic and talking. We then continue on to our lodging which is a cabin with a beautiful view from the mountain. The cabin happens to also have an outside jacuzzi with an amazing view. We get to the cabin, unpack and then watch the sunset in the jacuzzi while drinking wine. The evening would be spent having amazing sex and then the best sleep ever because the cabin has those great pillow top mattress that I enjoy so much.

There is a beautiful bed and breakfast inn located in the sleepy town of Mendocino called the Sea Rock Inn. This places oozes romance, total relaxation and peace and quiet. Cell phones don’t work very here, so if you REALLY wanna get away from everything and everyone, this is the place to go. The room is very cozy and you have a magnificent, breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean from your room…you can hear the waves crashing up against the rocks all night long. To set my relaxation mood, i’d put the soft robe (that comes with the room) in a chair facing the crackling fireplace…..the robe will be nice and warm when I slip out of the tub…..I’d bring a couple of candles to set by the tub, which I know I could sit in for a good 2 hours sipping on some wine and listening to the sounds of the ocean and peaking out the window to see the moon and stars. Run the tub full of water add some lavendar vanilla bath salts, turn on the jets and slip into the hot water. Dry off, put on the warm robe, snack on the fruit and cheese tray, hop in the bed with my book, pull up the down comforter and see how many pages I can read before I succumb to sleep. Upon waking, I’d go get some breakfast and head to town to check out the antique shoppes, do a little shopping, snag some lunch and get on the road to return home. I haven’t been to Mendocino in a couple of years, but I haven’t forgotten how special I felt when I left. That memory of that weekend has stayed with me and always made me feel warm and fuzzy inside……I would love to plan another night there. The Sea Rock Inn is my idea of a great 24 hour date.

Aaaaaahh…. yes yo do deserve a SPA DAY!
